Dental Filling

Dental fillings are a hard substance (such as porcelain inlay/onlay or composite) used to repair teeth by filling in holes that have been caused by damage to the tooth. Dental fillings cannot completely repair all damage to teeth, but are necessary to replace the tooth structure damaged by tooth decay.

White fillings:

White dental fillings restore the natural appearance of a tooth. Tooth coloured filling is also used to replace old amalgam silver fillings. The process involves dental composite which is a moldable tooth that has coloured material with a paste like consistency made from glass resins and fillers.

White fillers are long lasting and are available in different colours and shades that best match your teeth colour. These are essential to dentists that focus on preventing and strengthening teeth at a minimal dentist intervention.

Pros:

  • They closely match natural tooth colour and appearance
  • The bonding of white fillings to the tooth restores 85% – 95% of the original strength of the tooth.
  • Tooth sensitivity is minimal due to the composite resin
  • They can be repaired if damaged

Cons:

  • They are not as strong as porcelain restorations.
  • Great expertise is required to do them correctly.
  • Frequent exposure to liquids with a high alcohol content may degrade them.
